Fonds reflects Zytaruk's career as the Principal/President of Nipissing College and as a Professor of English Literature. Records span his entire academic career from the mid 1960s to the 1990s, and are arranged into six series. Records include: minutes, agendas, and reports of the academic senates of Nipissing College and Laurentian University; minutes, correspondence, and reports of the Board of Governors of Nipissing College; correspondence and programs relating to events and conferences which Zytaruk organized or attended; academic journals containing articles he authored; speeches he gave as Principal/President; and correspondence, budgets, minutes, and reports related to college/university administration.

Zytaruk, George

The First Decade: 1967-1977

Item is a report prepared by the Academic Planning Committee of the Senate of Nipissing University College and submitted to the Ontario Council on University Affairs (OCUA). Report covers the college's finances, scholarship and research, community relations, library, curriculum innovations, and planning for graduate studies over the period 1967 to 1977.

Original Nipissing crest

College Education Centre planning and administration

Sub-series documents planning, construction, and administration of the College Education Centre (CEC), the multi-college campus facility that originally housed four North Bay colleges. Sub-series contains correspondence, reports, minutes, and other records of the Campus Planning Committee, Campus Co-ordinating Committee, and the College Education Centre Users' Committee, joint committees which were made up of representatives from each college and which were responsible for the planning and administration of shared facilities and services at the CEC.

College/university administration

Series documents Zytaruk's activities as a college/university administrator. The majority of files in the series date from his term as Principal/President of Nipissing College (1967-1983). Other files relate to his subsequent activities as a faculty member, mostly in Nipissing's Humanities Division and Laurentian University's Department of English. Series is arranged into four sub-series.

Academic Senate

Series documents Zytaruk's membership and involvement in Nipissing College/University's Academic Senate and the Laurentian University Senate. Files consist mainly of minutes, agendas, and reports.

Salary negotiations

File contains minutes of the Salary Negotiating Committee of the Board of Governors, as well as correspondence, plan proposals, and estimates.

Policies and procedures

File contains college and university policies and manuals, and the constitution of the Nipissing University Faculty Association.

Government relations

Sub-series documents liaison, reporting, and communications between Nipissing College and provincial government agencies including the Ontario Council of University Affairs, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the Ontario Economic Council, and special commissions.

College Education Centre / Furniture (street)

File documents the design and purchase of street furniture including planters, benches, and tables. File contains correspondence, invoices, and technical drawings of custom furniture designs.

Project planning and organization files

File documents the planning of the College Education Centre, including its design, construction, and furnishings. File contains correspondence, estimates, newspaper clippings, memoranda, presentations, minutes, and tenders. File also contains floor plan regarding a proposed re-division of the second level of the College Education Centre's G Block.

College Education Centre / auditorium (the Norman Weaver)

File documents planning of the original furnishing of the Norman Weaver auditorium, as well as the design of a memorial plaque dedicated to Reverend Norman Weaver. File contains correspondence, invoices, estimates, and technical specifications. It also contains photographs of Norman Weaver and his funeral in 1960, as well as a floor plan of the electrical system of the second level of the College Education Centre, including the Norman Weaver Auditorium.

File contains presentations, draft proposals, site plans, and organizational charts relating to the organization and administration of the proposed College Education Centre. File also contains a copy of the "Master plan for the College Education Centre of North Bay."
