Fonds reflects the functions and activities of the President's Office of Nipissing University. The fonds contains seven subseries: academic affairs, campus facilities administration, establishment of Nipissing College and Northeastern University, faculty and staff, government relations, special projects, and university charter application.

Nipissing University. President's Office

Convocation signing ceremony

Item is a photograph of a signing ceremony in an office before (?) Nipissing University College's 18th convocation ceremony. Pictured are President Anthony Blackbourn, honourary degree recipient Albert V. Tucker (?) (Doctor of Laws), and another man.

Alumni association corporate desk seal

Item is a corporate desk seal consisting of a seal press with two dies and used for embossing documents with the corporate seal. The seal press is made of cast iron painted black, and bears a brass plate reading : Nipissing University College Alumni Association Incorporated. One die is made of brass, the other of lead (?).

Special projects

Series relates to special projects and committee work involving the President or President's Office staff. Series is arranged into two subseries: Nipissing Early History Committee and North Bay Quality of Life Committee.

Academic affairs

Series documents the involvement of the President's Office in academic affairs. Series contains three subseries: Presidents' Joint Committee on Program Articulation; program development; and student survey reports.

Government relations

Series documents Nipissing University's reporting to and interaction with Ontario government bodies responsible for education, primarily the Ontario Council on University Affairs (OCUA) as well as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Colleges and Education, and special committees, commissions, and panels including: the Committee on University Education in Northeastern Ontario (also known as the Parrott Committee); the Committee on the Future Development of the Universities of Ontario; the Advisory Panel on Future Directions for Post Secondary Education; and the Commission on Post-Secondary Education in Ontario.

Series contains one subseries consisting of annual reports submitted to the Ontario Council on University Affairs.

Nipissing College corporate desk seal

Dr. John Daniel, President - 1984-

File documents arrangements for a visit to North Bay by Dr. John Daniel, President Designate of Laurentian University, in June 1984. File contains correspondence, memoranda, an itinerary of Daniel's visit, his curriculum vitae, as well as a letter to OCUA from 1988 about Nipissing University College's bid for a university charter.

University charter application

Series documents preparations for Nipissing University College's application for a university charter and degree-granting powers, which were carried out by the President's Office (under Presidents Anthony Blackbourn and Dave Marshall) and the Board of Governors' Charter Advisory Committee. Series documents: the preparation of a university charter submission; negotiations with the Ontario Council on University Affairs (OCUA); the campaign to build support for the charter bid among municipal councils, universities, businesses, and other organizations locally and across Ontario; the hosting of an OCUA fact-finding visit to Nipissing University College in November 1990; and the planning of celebrations following the granting of a university charter.

File documents presentations about the university charter bid that were made to northern Ontario town councils (including North Bay, Powassan, New Liskeard, Sturgeon Falls, Mattawa, Parry Sound, Cobalt, and Haileybury) in the spring of 1988. File contains presentations, correspondence, memoranda, notes, and contact information.

Fact finding visit by OCUA - November 29, 30, 1990

File documents preparations for the Ontario Council on University Affairs (OCUA) subcommittee's fact-finding visit to Nipissing University College. File contains the President's presentation to the OCUA subcommittee, schedules and itineraries, a list of the members of the subcommittee, memoranda, invitation and guest lists for meals and events, and the speakers list for the meeting with faculty.

Charter to 1991 - #4

File contains memoranda, correspondence, minutes (of meetings of the Charter Advisory Committee, Academic Planning Committee, and administrative staff meetings), agendas, news clippings, Senate attendance records, reports, notes, organizational charts, and copies of the "Submission to the Ontario Council on University Affairs requesting degree granting powers" (1990) and "Nipissing University College's Capital Facilities Plan 1989-94."

File contains articles written by President Dave Marshall regarding the charter and Nipissing's 25th anniversary celebrations, as well as comments to the Ontario Council on University Affairs and an article in <i>The Weekender</i> about the charter application.
