Faculty publications and research

Series contains publications listing faculty research publications and projects (including: books, edited books, edited journals, contract research reports, book chapters, journal articles, published conference papers, abstracts, review articles, book reviews, creative works, and government documents and reports).


Series contains photographs created, received, and/or used by the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications for communication and promotional purposes. Photographs document special events and academic and student life on campus. Common subjects of photographs include: convocations, awards ceremonies, faculty and staff, special events, university buildings and campus, students, athletics, and clubs.

Series is arranged into five sub-series: Binders; Print files (by subject); Print files (numbered); Prints; Prints (by roll/project).

Media clippings

Series contains media clipping files about Nipissing University staff, faculty, students, academic programs, special events, campaigns, athletic teams, research, and other subjects. The files were used to track media hits for Nipissing University and to inform future university communications. Series is arranged into three sub-series: faculty and staff, miscellaneous by year, and other subjects.

Oral and community history research collection

Series contains a community history research collection assembled by the ICSOH through the recording of oral histories and the acquisition of archival materials from private donors. Series contains: video and audio recordings of oral history interviews conducted by students and faculty; records, publications and ephemera relating to the history of North Bay and area; digital records created in the course of projects to digitize the collections of the ICSOH and local private donors (including school yearbooks, photographs, newspapers, and maps); and student projects and presentations.

Series contains one subseries documenting the administration of the ICSOH's research collection.

Event programs and souvenir booklets

Series consists of programs and souvenir booklets from events organized by North Bay clubs, service organizations, churches, and schools including banquets, church services, memorial services, sporting events, art exhibitions, and anniversary celebrations. Series also contains souvenir booklets from civic anniversary celebrations in Powassan, Cobalt, and Renfrew.


Series contains Nipissing University memorabilia and souvenir items including: button pins, mugs, glasses, lapel pins, pens, pen holders, magnets, baby shoes, a lunchbox (from the Building Tradition fundraising campaign sod turning ceremony on June 2, 1994), whistles, magnets, coasters, pennants, a licence plate holder, scrunchy, and necktie. Most items feature the logo and branding elements of the university.


Series documents the enrollment of students by the school and its predecessors. Series contains nominal rolls, class lists, and student picture files, which contain photographs of all enrolled students.


Series contains ephemera including event invitations and programs, greeting cards, pamphlets and brochures about the University and its academic programs, and other promotional or informational material.

Executive administration

Series documents Nettlefold's participation in meetings and decision-making as a member of Nipissing University's executive administration. Series contains minutes of executive administrative staff meetings, correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other records.

Academic Senate

Series documents Nettlefold's involvement with Nipissing University's Academic Senate. The series mainly consists of meeting minutes, agendas, and reports of the Academic Senate and its committees.

New Quebec mineral exploration project

Series documents an unsuccessful mineral exploration project in Northern Quebec carried out around 1946 by Fockler and his associates in partnership with the International Nickel Company of Canada (Inco). The project investigated several areas of magnetic anomalies first observed by Captain Ernest Gann's flight crew during a rescue operation in 1943, which could have indicated the presence of mineral deposits.

Mining and geology publications

Series consists of publications about mining and geology, the majority of which are reports published by federal and provincial government agencies including: the federal Mines Branch/Department of Mines, Ontario's Bureau/Department of Mines, Royal Ontario Nickel Commission, Quebec's Department of Mines, Quebec's Department of Natural Resources, and Nova Scotia's Department of Public Works and Mines. Series also contains other publications including reports and journals of the Geology Association of Canada, and Canadian Mines Handbooks.

Air photos of Ontario highways

Series contains air photographs of highways in Ontario including: Highway 11 and Highway 17 in and near North Bay; Queen Elizabeth Way from the Freeman Interchange in Burlington to Stoney Creek; and Highway 401 from Pickering to Oshawa.

Air photos of northern Ontario and Quebec

Series consists of air photographs of northeastern Ontario and northwestern Quebec taken by Spartan Air Services Canada Limited. Series contains photographs of areas in and near North Bay, Sudbury, Gogama, Timmins, Ville-Marie, and Noranda-Rouyn. Series also contains 7 index maps that were compiled around 2010 by Data and Documents Coordinator Tom Power.

Photographs in series are arranged by base map number, strip number, and roll number.
