Item is a narrative history prepared by the Harris Learning Library's Data and Documents Coordinator Tom Power about a wartime rescue operation in Northern Quebec that inspired Ernest Gann's novel (and a subsequent John Wayne film) "Island in the Sky." The narrative history also covers a mineral exploration project by Fockler, his associates, and Inco that later took place in the same area. The history provides background and context for the other files and items in the series.

The booklet was created by the Sisters and was presented to the faculty and students of Nipissing University on 30 November 2007, presumably on the occasion of the monastery's purchase by Nipissing University. The booklet contains photographs and descriptions of the monastery's construction (beginning in 1961), its facilities, and grounds.

The Northern Connection

Series documents Surtees' research for his book <i>The Northern Connection: Ontario Northland Since 1902</i> (published 1992), a history of the Ontario Northland Railway/Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. Series is arranged into four subseries: interview audio recordings, interview files, maps and plans, and photographs. Series also contains other records created or collected by Surtees in the course of his research including correspondence, newspaper clippings, photocopies of archival records, Ontario Northland reports and newsletters, and ephemera.
