Collection consists of pamphlets, articles, reports, and ephemera relating to North Bay and northeastern Ontario that were collected by the Education Centre Library for its vertical file (a collection of documents maintained by a library to provide easy access to information about frequently-requested topics; vertical files were especially popular before the rise of the Internet). The collection was created from the early 1970s, when the Library was founded, until the dissolution of the vertical file in the late 2000s.

Most files are arranged alphabetically by subject or by place name (in the case of items relating to communities other than North Bay).

The Dionne Quints

Item is a postcard of five girls dressed as the Dionne Quintuplets standing around a jack o'lantern. Postcard is captioned "The Dionne Quints celebrate Halloween. The Dionne Museum, North Bay, Ontario has many mementoes of their early years."

The country north of the Mattawa River and Lake Nipissing.

Item is a chapter of a book intended for settlers entitled The farming lands of Algoma and North Nipissing. - A short description of those parts of the districts best adapted to agricultural purposes, which was "prepared under instructions from the Commissioner of Crown Lands."
