Prints (by roll/project)

Subseries contains photographic prints arranged by roll/project. The prints from each roll/project are housed in an envelope with a label the includes some or all of the following information: photographer name, name of agency that the work was done for, date, location, file number, title/description, number of photos, source, and negatives (yes or no).

Government relations

Sub-series documents liaison, reporting, and communications between Nipissing College and provincial government agencies including the Ontario Council of University Affairs, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the Ontario Economic Council, and special commissions.

Photographs

Series contains photographs of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway/Ontario Northland Railway (ca. 1910-1953) that were given to Surtees by various donors for use in his book. Some photographs are accompanied by descriptive information and permissions to publish. Series also contains photographs taken by Surtees on research trips around northern Ontario of Ontario Northland Railway infrastructure, staff, and former employees he interviewed (1986-1991).

Faculty of Education

Sub-series contains Faculty of Education program reviews and reports relating to academic programs and other issues.

Maps and plans

Subseries contains maps and technical drawings relating to the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway/Ontario Northland Railway or to transportation in northeastern Ontario. Technical drawings show rail lines, terminals, dikes, mines, and railway infrastructure.

North Bay Quality of Life Committee

Subseries documents President Dave Marshall's activities as Chairman of the North Bay Quality of Life Committee, which was created to produce reports on quality of life the North Bay region for the Economic Development Commission of the City of North Bay.

Interview files

Subseries contains files relating to oral history interviews Surtees conducted with former Ontario Northland Railway employees. Files contain transcripts, interview notes, photographs, and records given to Surtees by the interviewees.

Subseries consists of Ontario tourist guides and brochures.

College Education Centre planning and administration

Sub-series documents planning, construction, and administration of the College Education Centre (CEC), the multi-college campus facility that originally housed four North Bay colleges. Sub-series contains correspondence, reports, minutes, and other records of the Campus Planning Committee, Campus Co-ordinating Committee, and the College Education Centre Users' Committee, joint committees which were made up of representatives from each college and which were responsible for the planning and administration of shared facilities and services at the CEC.

Interview audio recordings

Subseries contains audio recordings of oral history interviews Surtees conducted with former Ontario Northland Railway employees.

Faculty files

Subseries documents the appointment, promotion, and tenure of faculty members, as well as the administration of professional development funds, travel assistance, and sabbaticals. Files are arranged by last name of faculty member and contain: correspondence; curricula vitae; academic transcripts; sabbatical applications and reports; applications for professional development funds and travel assistance; faculty reports, evaluation forms, grant applications and project proposals; teaching appointment forms and contracts; assessment reports relating to promotion; and awards nominations.

Binders

Subseries contains negatives, prints, slides, and positives that were arranged in binders by the OIMC. Common subjects of photographs include: convocations, awards ceremonies, faculty and staff, special events (such as anniversary celebrations, building opening ceremonies, news conferences, VIP visits), campus buildings and scenery, students, athletics, construction, and clubs.

Photographs are arranged as they were originally by the OIMC, in binders by date range and/or format.

Northern Literary Symposium

Sub-series documents Zytaruk's involvement with the Northern Literary Symposium, a literature conference hosted by the colleges and universities in Northern Ontario, which he was instrumental in founding in 1983. Sub-series contains six files which document Zytaruk's roles over the years of the symposium's existence as a host (Nipissing College hosted the first conference in 1983), presenter, and attendee.

Minutes

Sub-series contains minutes of Board of Governors meetings during Zytaruk's term as Principal/President of Nipissing College. Sub-series contains minutes of regular and committee meetings, as well as memoranda, reports, correspondence, and budgets.

Nipissing Early History Committee

Series documents efforts by the Nipissing Early History Committee (headed by Susan Robineau, Secretary to the University/Board of Governors) to gather and preserve records relating to the early history (and prehistory) of Nipissing University, mainly the period from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

Administration and governance

Series documents the administration and governance of the North Bay Community Concert Association. Series contains by-laws, constitution, annual reports, lists of directorate and executive members, minutes, and correspondence.

Plant and Property Committee

Series documents the work of the Plant and Property Committee (formerly called the Building and Property Committee), which is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upgrade of university buildings, the review of new building proposals in consideration of the university’s Master Land Use Plan, and the selection of consultants, engineers, and architects. Series consists of one file containing minutes, agendas, memoranda, reports, and correspondence.

Other committees

Series documents the work of other committees of, or related to, the Board of Governors, including the following special or temporary committees: the Library Committee; Special Committee on Salaries for the President, Deans, and Assistant Dean; Presidents' Research Committee (Laurentian); Sites Committee; Negotiating Committee (Northeastern University); Ad Hoc Planning Committee; and Advisory Committee. Series is arranged into files by committee.

Faculty publications and research

Series contains publications listing faculty research publications and projects (including: books, edited books, edited journals, contract research reports, book chapters, journal articles, published conference papers, abstracts, review articles, book reviews, creative works, and government documents and reports).

University charter application

Series documents preparations for Nipissing University College's application for a university charter and degree-granting powers, which were carried out by the President's Office (under Presidents Anthony Blackbourn and Dave Marshall) and the Board of Governors' Charter Advisory Committee. Series documents: the preparation of a university charter submission; negotiations with the Ontario Council on University Affairs (OCUA); the campaign to build support for the charter bid among municipal councils, universities, businesses, and other organizations locally and across Ontario; the hosting of an OCUA fact-finding visit to Nipissing University College in November 1990; and the planning of celebrations following the granting of a university charter.
