2004-2005 Student projects - Volume I: North Bay

Item is a bound collection of student projects which is arranged into three sections: Database projects (includes "General documents of the land registry" by Rob Shields and Scott McInnis, "North Bay land registry project" by Lisa Bell, and "French families in North Bay" by Carol Russell), Buildings and Monuments (includes "Empire building project" by Paul Servos, "Gateway to North Bay's monuments" by Anna daSilva"), and Communities and community groups (includes "The Italian community of North Bay" by Christine Orlando, "The Indians of Nipissing Land Reserve Number 10" by Carolyn Stone, and "The Orange Order and its early history in North Bay" by John Sawdon). Item also includes an introduction, appendices, and 2 CDs and 1 DVD containing interview recordings, photographs, presentations, and spreadsheets relating to the student projects.

Anniversary clippings

File contains news clippings about the church's 50th and 55th anniversary celebrations in 1978 and 1983, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Frederica Taylor Unit in 1997.

Collection consists of records collected by Françoise Noël in the course of research for her book Nipissing: Historic Waterway, Wilderness Playground (Toronto: Dundurn Books, 2015), about the historical development of the tourism industry in the Nipissing District. The collection was assembled over approximately five years leading up to the book's publication. It contains maps, photographs, postcards, tourist guides and brochures, souvenir booklets, event programs, yearbooks, and other material relating to the history of North Bay and the Nipissing District, especially the tourist industry. The collection is arranged into five series based on documentary form.

The first half-century in retrospect

Item is booklet published to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Ontario Northland Railway/Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. Booklet contains a history of the railway; photographs of its chairmen and facilities; and lists of personnel.

North Bay Old Home Week

Item is a souvenir booklet commemorating North Bay Old Home Week. The booklet contains historical articles about North Bay, photos, poetry, and advertisements of local businesses.

North Bay and District

Item is a tourist map published by the North Bay Board of Trade that contains advertisements of local tourist outfitters, hotels, and other businesses.

Grand Trunk Railway System Ontario maps

Item contains five maps of Grand Trunk Railway lines in parts of Ontario. Maps are titled: The Highlands of Ontario - Including Muskoka Lakes Dist[rict], Lake of Bays Dist[rict], Magnetawan River Dist[rict], 30,000 islands of Georgia Bay, Kawartha Lakes Dist[rict] ; Eastern section of Georgian Bay ; Huntsville and Lake of Bays, Muskoka District ; Kawartha Lakes District; Lake Nipissing District and Temagami Region.

Series consists of photographs and postcards, mostly of North Bay and the Nipissing District.

Postcards

File contains postcards of North Bay and other locations in and near the Nipissing District including: the French River, Lake Nipissing, Trout Lake, Lake Nosbonsing, Sturgeon Falls, Mattawa, Nipissing, Callander, Lavigne, Bonfield, Monetville, Saint Charles and Port Loring. The postcards depict: tourist attractions (such as parks, lakes, beaches, rivers, and waterfalls), tourist accommodations (including hotels, cottages, resorts, and camps), city scenes and buildings (including schools, railway stations, churches, municipal buildings, hospitals, and factories), the Dionne Quintuplets, the Chief Commanda steam ship, and trains.

File also contains a few postcards of other places including Temagami, Timmins, Cobalt, Lake Superior, Pembroke, Haileybury, Owen Sound, and Prince Rupert, BC. File additionally includes several souvenir folders containing postcards of Ontario, North Bay, and humorous cartoons.

French River - North Bay.

Item is a postally unused postcard depicting a houseboat belonging to Kervin Bros. and a canoe on the shore of the river.

Daub's Housekeeping Cottages

Item is a postally unused postcard depicting a winter scene of furs, snowmobile, sled with a leghold trap and person kneeling with an axe.

Conolly Family postcards and photographs

File contains a postcard collection that was created by the Conolly Family, a pioneering family in South River. The collection consists of a postcard album and loose postcards. Postcards include photographs of South River (including the chemical plant and the Conolly home [?]), Sundridge, Magnetawan, Trout Creek, Huntsville, Toronto, and Vegreville (Alberta), as well as holiday greeting postcards received by the family.

Ontario tourism booklets

File contains Ontario tourism booklets published by the Ontario Department of Travel and Publicity and its predecessors, with titles like "Ontario - Canada's premier province - The Lake-land playground," "Happy holiday haunts in Ontario - The ideal vacation land," "Ontario - Variety vacationland." Booklets contain general tourist information about Ontario and photographs of tourist destinations.
