Event programs and souvenir booklets

Series consists of programs and souvenir booklets from events organized by North Bay clubs, service organizations, churches, and schools including banquets, church services, memorial services, sporting events, art exhibitions, and anniversary celebrations. Series also contains souvenir booklets from civic anniversary celebrations in Powassan, Cobalt, and Renfrew.

Normal School - North Bay - Address register [i.e. entrance register]

Entrance register contains information about new students, arranged chronologically by session (year of the school's operation). Recorded information includes: registration number, date of registration, name, birth place, date of birth, age, post office address, religious denomination, non-professional qualifications, where obtained, last place of teaching, and length of teaching experience. The register also contains a printed lists of students by academic year, loose or pasted into the margins of the register.

Normal School - North Bay - Address register

Signatures and addresses register contains signatures of candidates for admission, who by signing declare that they intend to prepare for the profession of teacher and will comply with the rules and regulations of the school. Recorded information includes: student name, register number, street address, name of keeper of boarding house, and telephone number. Arranged chronologically. Also contains printed student lists for each session (academic year).

Mining and geology publications

Series consists of publications about mining and geology, the majority of which are reports published by federal and provincial government agencies including: the federal Mines Branch/Department of Mines, Ontario's Bureau/Department of Mines, Royal Ontario Nickel Commission, Quebec's Department of Mines, Quebec's Department of Natural Resources, and Nova Scotia's Department of Public Works and Mines. Series also contains other publications including reports and journals of the Geology Association of Canada, and Canadian Mines Handbooks.

Grading

Series documents the grading of students in their courses and practice teaching placements. The series mostly consists of two types of registers: reports of grades and results (sometimes called sessional records), which document student grades by subject and their final results/standing (pass or fail), from 1909 to 1974; and training registers, which document student grades and evaluation remarks made during their practice teaching placements in local schools, from 1909 to 1954. Registers are arranged chronologically and, in the case of training registers, alphabetically by student surname.

Model school final reports

Register contains reports of student grades and final results, arranged chronologically by year. Recorded information includes: candidate name, age, gender, grade percentage by subject, totals, standing recommended, and remarks.

Kelly Morgan

File contains a variety of photographs depicting: trains crossing a trestle, a steam shovel excavating, railway ties loaded on truck, engineer (?) "Barney" Morgan, the last Ontario Northland passenger train from Timmins (1989), a railway caboose of the Temiskaming & Northern Ontario Railway, and a train crew with their locomotive. File also contains permission signed by Kelly Morgan authorizing Surtees to use the photos "of Mr. T. Morgan and others" in his book.

Photographs

Series contains photographs of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway/Ontario Northland Railway (ca. 1910-1953) that were given to Surtees by various donors for use in his book. Some photographs are accompanied by descriptive information and permissions to publish. Series also contains photographs taken by Surtees on research trips around northern Ontario of Ontario Northland Railway infrastructure, staff, and former employees he interviewed (1986-1991).

The Northern Connection

Series documents Surtees' research for his book <i>The Northern Connection: Ontario Northland Since 1902</i> (published 1992), a history of the Ontario Northland Railway/Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. Series is arranged into four subseries: interview audio recordings, interview files, maps and plans, and photographs. Series also contains other records created or collected by Surtees in the course of his research including correspondence, newspaper clippings, photocopies of archival records, Ontario Northland reports and newsletters, and ephemera.

Resumes, martins + mine

File contains a variety of photographs taken in Timmins, Porcupine City, South Porcupine, and Hayle that depict camps, mines, a sawmill, prospectors in canoes, lakes, rapids, and the visit of the Governor General to Timmins (September 26, 1914).

Kervin Bros. Camp

File contains promotional and souvenir materials relating to the Kervin Brothers Camp (also called Kervin's Camp, Kervin's Houseboats, or Kervin Bros.), a tourist outfitter and houseboat operator based out of Callander and Sturgeon Falls. File contains: souvenir booklets relating to the expeditions of "Timmer's Fishin' Party" (a fishing party led by C.W. Timmermeister); a program from a fishing trip by Pennsylvania Greyhound Lines executives; promotional letters, brochures, and envelopes; and 2 postcards featuring the houseboats.

Financial record includes the following information: name, arrears brought forward, amount received by month, and [total] arrears. Item also contains degree rolls from 1912-1960. Rolls include members' names with the dates they were initiated, joined by certificate, received degrees (including Scarlet, Royal Mark, Apron and Royal Blue, White, Green, Gold, Star and Garter, Crimson Arrow, Link and Chain, and Red Cross), withdrawn by certificate, suspended, re-instated, expelled, and died, as well as remarks.

Yearbooks

Series consists of yearbooks prepared by the students of North Bay Normal School / Teachers' College, and photographs that were used in the design of yearbooks.

Yearbooks contain: lists of staff, students, and practice teaching placements; membership lists of student teams, clubs, and committees; messages from administrators and valedictorians; advertisements; and a variety of student literary compositions including poems, essays, short stories, jokes, editorials, biographical tributes, and accounts of club activities, parties, trips, and other social and special events.
